Terms

Last updated: 27 July 2026

Mdown is free software provided under the MIT licence. These terms cover the Mac, iPad and iPhone app and the browser extension.

Licence

You may use, copy, modify and distribute the software under the terms of the MIT licence, which travels with the source. The repository becomes public with the release. The name “Mdown” and the app icon are not covered by that licence — fork the code freely, but ship it under your own name.

No warranty

The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Mdown never writes to your files, but you remain responsible for your backups.

Your content

  • Your documents stay yours and stay on your device
  • There is no account, so there is nothing to suspend or recover
  • There are no purchases and no subscriptions, so there is nothing to cancel or refund

Acceptable use

Mdown is a reader. Don’t use it to open files you have no right to read, and don’t represent a modified build as the official one.

The browser extension

The extension is distributed through the Chrome Web Store under the same licence and the same terms. Its permissions exist to recognise and render Markdown; they are described on the Privacy page.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the app changes; the date above moves with them. Continuing to use the software after a change means accepting it.
